Guilty Gear Character Spotlight - Bridget
Written By Siren
Hi everyone! This is Siren and I’m actually writing an article for the team wowow. If you don’t know, I’m a team member of UAL and I’ve been asked to talk about Bridget, my favorite character as of late. I took Bridget to the most recent Buffalo regional and got 28th, marking both my first top 32 performance and a record being the highest ranked Bridget of the regional! There’s a lot to this character so strap in and you can know how to swing yoyos like a pro!
For those who don’t know, Bridget is a 7 hand size 21 health character with the water and air symbol. She has two abilities:
Enhance Flip 1 other card in your card pool: This attack gets +2 or -2 speed.
Response [Twice per turn]: After your attack deals damage, add 1 face down card from your card pool to your momentum.
These two abilities are incredibly powerful even after her errata to flip other cards in the card pool. Personally, I never thought the debuild version of Bridget was enough to actually win games, so it never came upon my radar. What I did invest in was City Rampage Bridget. This deck was a powerhouse, and it offered a solution to Bridget’s damage problem and her issue of not being able to buff her first attack reliably. I won’t say that I was a pioneer with rampage Bridget, but I do think I created a deck with some of the best matchups into the meta.
Utilizing cards like City Rampage allowed me to put pressure on decks like Deku 6 and Rodan quickly but most importantly this deck had amazing matchups into Devil Jin and Mikasa 4, the two dominant characters of the format. Between chain blocking with Fillet Fling, Scales of Juno, Dr Ichigaki, and Dust Attack to generate Yellow Roman Cancel, there was no time I was worried about playing into these decks. This contributed to my confidence going into the regional with the motto, “kill fast or control long enough they get greedy and punish”.
Overall, I think Bridget is one of the best characters in the game right now and she’s only getting better. With the upcoming Team Hero deck, we’re getting the Thruster Vision cards which further her game plan and make her just that much more potent. I won’t say this deck is or ever will be simple as sequencing and understanding board states is an extremely large part of it but it is incredibly fun! Give it a try if you want to play a cool combo deck that has a lot of moving pieces going on!
