Playing Every TMNT Character - Mega Mutant

We are back with another “episode” of Grant Plays Every TMNT Character!

This week I played Mega Mutant, “We Didn’t Give Him a Subtitle” on the Evil symbol for Kobolds Keep’s Store Scramble. I have tried to keep all my articles as positive as possible and highlight the fun parts of each character up to this point, unfortunately I can’t do that as easily here, this character is just boring. He has a somewhat powerful ability that scales speed and damage based on Ally cards in your cardpool but that is all he does. It just feels very vanilla. With that said there are ways to make the deck play a little more fun, it’s just not a character I will be revisiting and playing again.

I built him on Evil because that gives him access to what I would say are the most fun Ally attacks on his symbols like Dark Shadow Surge and Dark Shadow Berserk. I am also a huge Tokoyami fan and getting to play with Bird cards that never saw a lot of play was cool. The best attacks in the deck were probably Mutant Mashup and Creating a Family. The goal of the deck is simple, having as many Ally cards in the cardpool as possible to make big attacks. You can do this by playing a few Ally foundations into the cardpool first and then following it with a 3-difficulty attack like Special Report or Martial Arts Moves for a quick but impactful build and poke turn, or you can do it the normal way by stringing a bunch of attacks. That’s really it, that’s what he does.

How did we do? Not great.

Round 1 I paired into April O’Neil. This did not go well for me. Trying to string out multiple attacks while your opponent is making their blocks Breaker 4 is difficult. I also built 2 and passed while going first in both games 1 and 2 which set me back quite a bit in both games. I lost this round 0-2

Round 2 was against Jester Lavorre, Prankster Priestess. This went much better, I built 5 in both games, was able to string out a ton without my opponent breaker-ing my moves which was great. Big Freakin’ Explosions are also a little less scary when holding Barrier Shield and a +1 High Block. I took this round 2-0

Round 3 was versus Marvin on the newest iteration of his Pony Tsunotori deck. I definitely lost this match 0-2 but had a great time playing against my brother as always. I will say, the defense built into my deck did allow me to survive longer against Marvin’s Pony than I have with any other deck besides Godzilla and maybe Grog Strongjaw.

I ended up going 1-2 for 8th place on the day but still had a great time at the Scramble even if I will never play this character again. If you like stat-stick characters with only one ability give Mega Mutant a try. My decklist is below if you want to check it out!
